Author Permissions error

I cannot access server extensions, or upload my FP web to IIS because I
apparantly don't have permission access.

I'm using WinXP Pro, and have a clean install of IIS and 2002 server
extensions. I'm the Administrator, and have no password. All attempts to
set up new permissions do not alter results. IIS is running ok and I can
view the default pages by entering http://tom/localhost in the browser. But,
any effort to access the server extensions is met with the No Permissions
page. I've reinstalled IIS and the extensions without change. I've been
fooling with this for days without success. Can someone tell me what I'm
doing wrong or point me to some help? Thanks.

Any users with access to the FrontPage webs ( as administrators or
authors) must have passwords.
Also, do mean http://localhost/tom ? Your way means the computer is
named tom, and you have a subweb named localhost.

Thanks for responding.

Curiously, I'm able to access localstart.asp by either: http://localstart/
or http://tom/localstart/. My computer's name is tom, but I have no subweb
named tom.

As far as the "must have password" requirement, how and where do I go about
establishing a password for the default web site in IIS? That done, will any
virtual directory I create inherit that same password?

Sorry to be so dense. As you can tell I'm a little new at this. Thanks

You will have to change the user details for whoever logs into the
FrontPage web, giving that user a password - Control Panel->User
Accounts, select the account and choose Change (or add) Password.
