Author New extenstions install - got a few questions

2005-07-22, 5:50 pm

We run a web hosting company and have a client who wants to use the
FrontPage components, ive never had the need to use it before and such it is
not installed.

I have downloaded and installed FrontPage server extensions 2002 but its not
yet working and I have a few questions.

It seems to integrate with windows accounts for publishing content....this
sucks....I don't want to create a full user on the server for a client to
publish content. Is it possible to just an account?

How do I know I have the latest (secure) version installed or where can I
find it?

I know IIS inside out and as such can secure it, but being new to server
extensions are there any issues I should be aware of or any steps I need to
secure the website?

Does the client have to publish through FrontPage? can they still use FTP to
upload? (and if not does FTP break it?)

When publishing through FrontPage do you use the http://www.foobar.com
rather than the FTP address?
I did this and it didn't seem to connect!
"Unable to open 'http://www.foobar.com" Server error: An error occurred
accessing your FrontPage web files.

Cheers

Thanks for the links, I have updated to the last security update, but I am
still unable to publish anything, am getting the same error, I can access
the web-based admin pages though.

Im also running URLScan on IIS, but ive set it do late scanning and allow
the OPTIONS verb.

I should also mention that part of the HTTP headers are being returned in
the body response for all the extension DLLS e.g:

/_vti_bin/shtml.dll

--------------------------------

Content-Type: text/html; charset=windows-1252

<HTML><BODY>Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:
""</BODY></HTML>

-----------------------------------

Im thinking this may cause FrontPage to fail detecting the extensions, is
this a known bug? and is there a patch or fix?

Please advise
