Website doesn't recognize that server has extensions
|
|
|
| I have had a regular website now for quite a while and wanted to add some
menus etc. and noticed that I required Frontpage extensions on the server
that is hosting my website. I then contacted my internet provider and asked
them to add frontpage extensions. They added Frontpage extensions 2002 on my
website. I am using Frontpage 2003 and they stated that they are compatable.
I simply only added a drop down menu in Frontpage with one entry to go to
another webpage when selected. When I select that entry in the drop down
menu, it comes up with an error:
Frontpage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.
This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed
Frontpage is installed on my webserver as told to me by the internet
provider. Am I doing something wrong or didn't add something on my website
to convert from original format without frontpage extensions to now a website
with frontpage extensions? Can anyone help?
Thank you.

| How did you place the menu on the page? Did you edit it locally with
your FP2003 client then ftp to the ISP? Have you tried to publish (with
http) to the site now that it is FrontPage enabled? Have you tried to
edit the page directly on the server with your FP client?

| That text comes from _derived/nortbots.htm
nortbots stands for NoRunTimewebBots and only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to
a URL of the form http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

| I posted it the regular way that I have always done which is by FTP through
Frontpage 2003. Should I be publishing it through HTTP now that it is
frontpage enabled? Is that why it isn't working?
As for placing the menu on the page, I went into Frontpage and opened the
page that I wanted to place the drop down box on, and then went in the
Insert, Form, Drop Down box menu and selected it and then just customized it
and saved it and then published it through Frontpage like I normally do which
is through FTP. Should I be doing something different to eleminate the error?
Thanks.

| Yes, that is why it is not working.
You must always http publish a site to a server with FP extensions for the
web components that require extensions to work.
FTP will corrupt the extensions, and you'll need to contact your host to
repair or reinstall and reconfigure them.

| When I go into Frontpage 2003 and select Publish Site and then select
Frontpage or Sharepoint Services under Remote Web server type it then asks me
the remote website location. Do I enter http://mywebsite.com and that is
it and click ok, or do I have to enter the path, for example:
http://mywebsite.com/var/www/html ??
Thank you.

| Thank you so much for telling to use http instead of ftp. It worked to get my
submit form to send me results via email; only problem now is the results are
coming thru as jiberish; which I am trying to sort out. At least the submit
works now. Thanks for your expertise.
