Author Publishing with FP extensions activated

I am trying to publish my web site using http rather than ftp because I
understand that using ftp will corrupt FP files. I have had the web site
online using ftp and FrontPage 2003, but now I want to put a form on it (and
some other things which aren't important to this discussion). I have had my
server guy move me to a new server that can handle FP extensions. I don't
care if my web site if offline for a while. Here is what he said in his last
communication to me: "xxxxx.com is set up on new server - you can start from
scratch." Then he says " For ftp please us IP instead of domain name until
dns is switched." He gives me the 9 digit IP number, my user name, and
password. My question is: when I go to remote web site and then click on
FrontPage or Sharepoint Services, what do I fill in the blank after "Remote
Web site location:"? in the box it reads "http://" I just don't know what
to type in there. Thanks

You can probably publish directly using http:// and the name of the site
since it's a frontpage enabled server. FTP'ing is a bad idea since FTP'ing
can corrupt the FP server extensions, which are exactly what you are trying
to use. Of course, you can always try connecting using the IP address
through http:// and the ipaddress. Often, they opint to the same thing.

Hope this helps,

To publish using http to an IP address use http://xxx.xx.xx.xx where x is your IP address

I have tried using http://xx.xx.xx.xxx but I get the dreaded error message
saying "unable to open ..."
When I check the server control panel, it indicates: FP support - yes, FP
over SSL support - no, FP authoring - enabled. Is that all that is needed?
I'm now just trying to publish (using Http not FTP) a brand new, VERY simple
one page "under construction" web site just to get it started. Once I can do
that, I'll know everything is a go.
thanks
