FrontPage Extension
|
|
|
| I am trying to run a forum page in the server and I understand that frontpage
extensions need to be installed in the server. I downloaded the extension
from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...fpse2002win.asp
and installed but after whenI try to post messages in the dicussion page, I
received this message:-
FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.
This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.
From the http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;828909 , it
mention that the _vti_inf.html should be found in the root of the site but
its not there instead I found _vti_inf.htm residing in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\50\bin. According
to the Microsoft website,
The souce code in the _vti_inf.html should reflect this information:-
FrontPage Configuration Information
FPVersion="5.0.2.4330"
FPShtmlScriptUrl="_vti_bin/shtml.exe/_vti_rpc"
FPAuthorScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_aut/Author.exe"
FPAdminScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_adm/Admin.exe"
TPScriptUrl="_vti_bin/Owssvr.exe"
But the file I found _vti_inf.htm shows:-
FrontPage Configuration Information
FPVersion="5.0.0.0"
FPShtmlScriptUrl="_vti_bin/shtml.exe"
FPAuthorScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe"
FPAdminScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_adm/admin.exe"
TPScriptUrl="_vti_bin/tpstub.exe"
I will kindly appreciate if someone could shed some light on this matter.
Thank you.

| The message you get comes from _derived/nortbots.htm
nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination, or published to a
file system destination including a network share or UNC address (like
\\machinename\path\webname). Publish must be to a URL of the form
http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.
Since _vti_inf.html does not exist in the root of your web, it appears
that the extensions have not been installed in your website. Have you
configured the extensions for your website?
(Control Panel->Administration Tools->Microsoft Sharepoint
Administrator)
Additionally, there may be a file named postinfo.htm (or
postinfo.html) in the root web - this will only be there if the
extensions have been installed.
What Operating System are you using? - if Windows 2003, the downloaded
extensions will not work. For Windows 2003 the extensions must be
installed from the Windows CD.

| Dear Ronx,
Many thanks for responding to the email. I am using Windows XP Professional
to run the server. I can't install Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator as it
need to be on windows 2003 platform. Does that mean I can't run forum on
windows xp pro? Kindly enlighten me.

| You don't need SharePoint (WSS),
- but you do need the FP Server Extensions installed under IIS on Win XP Pro
(the FP SE Admin is also called Sharepoint Admin under Start - All Programs - Administrative Tools after you install the FP 2002 SE)
After installing IIS and the FP SE you need to open a server based locally using http://localhost
(not a disc based web as in C:\somepath\)

| Dear Stefan B Rusynko,
1) After installing Frontpage Server Extensions 2002, a window pops up
saying that "the saerver administrator and the server extensions on the web
server are not compatible." The administrator program is too old to old to
use with this server." For your info, the IIS installed in the administrator
tools is IIS V5.1.
2) Anyway I hit the ok button and the frontpage extensions installation was
complete. Under administrator tools --> I found a internet shortcut called
Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator and when I click it, this happens--->
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this page using your current user account.
Please try the following:
• If you have another user account with a higher level of permission, click
your browser's Back button to try again using that account.
• If you believe you should be able to view this page, contact the Web site
administrator.
Does this problem got anything to do with Anonymous Access and
Authentication control? I have set the user name as administrator/servername
and checked "Anonymous Access"and unchecked "Allow IIS to control password."
The computer is login to administrator account.
I created the forum page using the Frontpage wizard with the discussion
template. It didn't include or create any database files for me. Could that
be another reason why I am facing this problems. Please kindly advice. Many
thanks.
Regards,
Shay

| Even though others may not recommend it, I always uninstall the FP 2000 SE before I install the FP 2002 SE
Try starting fresh
In Control Panel - Add Remove Programs
- Uninstall the FP 2002 SE
- In Add/Remove Windows Components unselect IIS to remove it
- Restart your system
In Control Panel - Add Remove Programs
- In Add/Remove Windows Components select IIS and in details unselect the FP 2000 SE
(also any services you won't be using in Win XP Pro (say FTP & SMTP)
- Restart your system
- Check that IIS is running in IIS MMC then close the snap in
(Start - All Programs - Administrative Tools - IIS)
- Reinstall the FP 2002 SE from the down load page and then restart
version 5.0.2.2623 followed by version 5.0.2.4803 from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...fpse2002win.asp
- Open the IIS snap in again and under the root web right click to check All task to see if you need to Apply/Extend the FP SE
(under properties you should also now have a FP 2002 SE Tab and in Start - All Programs - Administrative Tools - you should have a
SharePoint Admin option)
Test it by opening FP and your FP 2002 SE server based web using File Open site and entering http://localhost/
PS
You can publish your old disc based web to http://localhost/ in FP and test the Discussion web there
- but you must publish that server extended web to an online hosted server w/ the FP SE for anyone else to use it
-

| Dear Stefan B Rusynko,
I am afraid I don't understand the line" Check that IIS is running in IIS
MMC then close the snap in (Start - All Programs - Administrative Tools -
IIS). " When I run MMC on the run command, there is nothing there on the
console! Do I have to add in the IIS in the Add/Remove Snap-in? and if so
what do I save it as? Sorry I am not very familiar in this area, pardon me
for the confusion.
Regards,
Shaja

| Dear Stefan B Rusynko,
As you mention in the earlier post, I followed your steps and uninstall FP
2002 SE and checked that in ISS details, the FP2000 SE was not checked by
default so when I first installed IIS from the window components, FP2000 was
not installed. Anyway I uninstalled FP2002 SE and you mention and followed on
to the next steps:- there are are the finding I had:-
1) I re-install IIS and also checked the IIS snap-in, it was running.
2) Then I proceed to install FP2002 SE and after installation it still says
the server administrator and the server extensions on the web server are not
compatible." The administrator program is too old to old to use with this
server."
3) In the IIS snap-in--> under the default web(rootweb)--->all tasks, I
could only see "check server extension". There was no option to Apply/Extend
the FP 2002 SE. When I cleck the "check server extension", its says no
problem found!
4) Under default web-->properties--> I don't see a FP2002 SE Tab but instead
a Tab called "Server Extensions" and when I click it the authoring mode is
enable and the version control is set to "none". At the bottom left hand
corner, its stated "(version 6.0.2.6353)".
5) In the administrative tool, there is only a internet shortcut called
"Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator". When I click it, a message appears
saying "You are not authorized to view this page".
6) Also fron FP2003 I tried to publish the website from http://localhost/
and a message appears saying "The web server at http://localhost/ does not
appear to have windows sharepoint services installed".
This are all the findings. Hope this findings can help in finding where the
problem lies. Many thanks for your kind help
Regards,
Shaja

| Hi,
I tried installing FP2002 SE with uninstalling FP2000 SE, now it seems
slightly better.
Now I am able to access "Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator" page. But now I
click the vitual server shown under " virtual server", I couldn't access the
page. It says
"http://myserver/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm" The page
cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed,
or is temporarily unavailable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is
spelled correctly.
Open the geoserver2005 home page, and then look for links to the information
you want.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Any idea what could be the problem. I have put my website files in the
wwwroot folder.
Regards,
Shaja
