Author Error Message: FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
Dan M.

2006-01-13, 9:59 pm

I am running IIS 5 on local Windows XP machine with FrontPage Extensions
2002. Everytime I try to run a form page, I get a "run-time component" error
that says "This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you
publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions
installed." I have triple checked and my local machine is running FP
extensions. I have even uninstalled them and reinstalled them but I get the
same error. I used FrontPage 2002 to create a form page from a Page
Template, published it to the local "server", and still get the error
message.
Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to get
this form to work, so I can post it to a "live" web server. Thank you in
advance for any help.

Is this form going to be sending form information to email?

The form is writing to a text file and then going to a confirmation page.

Open the http://localhost site in FP, run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks, and Open / resave the Form page
The Check View Reports (Web components for any errors) or File preview the page in browser

I did as you suggested, and didn't have any errors listed. I got a message
that I needed to contact the administrator to make certain FrontPage
extensions were installed. Since I am the administrator, and I installed
FPSE with Windows XP SP2, I thought everything was good to go in regards to
the FPSE. The whole FPSE and getting FrontPage 2002 to work together on any
web server (localhost or otherwise) is getting to be too much hassle. I am
running out of options. Any additional help would be appreciated.

Dan,

Did you use the built in "Publish Web" option or just create the form on the
page.

I used one of the wizards to create the form, then used "Publish Web" to
publish the web page to my localhost server.

Have you tried open the site at http://localhost directly in FP and then creating the form?

Locally the form may not work, if you include an email address, so test by having the form write to
a file.

As I stated originally, I created a new web site using the FP wizard, saved
it to http://localhost/myweb2, then created the form, also using the FP
wizards. Published it to the localhost/myweb2 location and tested it in IE
6. The form comes up fine, but when I submit it, I get the FrontPage
Run-time component page Error message. I have been doing web
design/development for ten years, and I am only trying to use FP because a
client requested it be used. The form supposed to write to a text file, no
email being sent. All of this has been stated previously. I am trying to
find a solution to why I may be getting the error and how to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated, but please read all my past posts so that you
can see if I have already answered your question. Thank you.

1. I don't keep read post.

2. You didn't answer my question. I ask you have you open http://localhost/ and then created the
form. I am not asking if you create a new web, etc. If you did create a new web, there would be not
reason for you to then to publish to the new web, since you would be already working in the new web.

Try the following:

1. In FP | File Menu | Open Site enter http://localhost
2. Create a folder, then right click and select convert to subsite
3. Double Click to open subsite
4. Create you form, and set it to write to a file, DO NOT enter an email address.
5. Save the form
6. Test the form using Preview in Browser via http://localhost/subsitename/form.htm

I have followed your instructions. I created a form within a blank page, not
using any form template or wizard. I tested the form and got the following
url: http://localhost/FPdiscussion/_vti_...ml.dll/form.htm and the
following error message:
FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.

Webmaster: please see the server's application event log for more details.

I do not know what to do know. Please advise.
