Authoring, Version Control: any other providers except VSS?

I've enabled Frontpage extensions on IIS and I can see that I can enable
authoring / version control using None, Internal or External (Visual Source
Safe).

Is it possible to "hook into" this to write another external provider (eg:
CVS/CVSNT)?

Has anyone got a sample of another provider or seen one?

I have several SCCI providers, but this does not seem to affect it. The
only other hint I got from the docs is that it is related to author.exe (or
author.dll) in the Frontpage Extensions...
