I recently installed Win2003 server with IIS6.0. I am also using
Frontpage 2003 to create websites. When I try to enable the extensions I
get the following error:

The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web
server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use
with
this server.

The versions of the extensions in use are as follows:

5.0.2.5012 IIS 6.0

6.0.2.5516 Frontpage 2003

I have tried to donwload the extensions from the Microsoft site but
nothing changes.

Any suggestions please.

Thank you

Hi Richard,

It is not recommended to install frontpage server extensions from the
microsoft site on a windows 2003 server. The frontpage server extensions
2002 is shipped with windows 2003 and install the same through the
Add/remove programs.

You might be editing the server based web site as a disk based one and
FrontPage 2003 changes the version to 6.0.2.5516, which causes the error
message.

Create a new web site and extend the same with frontpage server extensions.
Then open this site using http://sitename using frontpage 2003.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the possible solution but the original problem still exists. Any
other suggestions?

I had the same problem. The only way I was able to get into the server
administration was using the administrator account if you go to the version
control and select version contorl and use built in version control which
changed my version ot the 5.0.2.5012

I'm also experiencing this same problem. The error states the versions on the Admin side is too old (5.0.2.6790). FrontPage 2003 is being used which is showing 6.0.2.6551 as a version number.

There was a suggestion to create a new website then extend it to the FPSE. I hate to ask, but what exactly are the steps to do that? I've created a new site and put it onto the website, but the same error occured.

It's getting to be a real problem here. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

Tom
