Author how to restore security info for a subweb?

The site in question is hosted at successfulhosting.com - on an apache
server, with FP Server Extensions enabled. Twice in the last year, our FP
extensions have gotten 'corrupted' and had to be reinstalled. When this was
done, all the security/users/passwords got deleted from a secured subweb.

I was hoping to be able to restore the user & password file(s) from a recent
backup, rather than having to re-enter them manually. Can anyone tell me
which files contain this info, and where they are located? I'm guessing they
are in the _vti_pvt folder off of the subweb root? Unfortunately
successfulhosting tech support has no knowledge of how to do this.

Any help would be appreciated!

They should be able to restore the entire _vti_pvt directory for the
subweb for you. The files include:
access.cnf
botinfs.cnf
bots.cnf
deptodoc.btr
doctodep.btr
linkinfo.btr
service.cnf
service.grp
service.lck
service.pwd
services.cnf
svcalc.cnf
writeto.cnf
..roles
..htaccess

You might try to have them determine how the extensions became
corrupted. (unless you have someone ftping to your site this shouldn't
happen). You want to make sure that the subweb is being recognized as
a subweb also if they reinstalled. Check that the services.cnf file in
the main webs _vti_pvt directory contains a / for the root web and on
the next line the name of the subweb.

cat _vti_pvt/services.cnf
/
subwebname

Hope this helps

Gail,
Thanks for responding!

Yes, we *do* have people ftping into the site. I thought this would be okay
as long as they are just moving up individual html files. Is there a danger
in this (besides that they could inadvertantly mess with a _vti_pvt folder?

Any use of FTP can corrupt the FP SE
- FP & the FP SE don't know what you have FTP'd and the FP meta data stored on the site gets corrupted if it does not match what FP
has published

If they need to FTP create subweb just for the FTP files and never open that subweb in FP
