I just bought a new computer with XP media center on it and upgraded from a
Direcway 4000 to a Direcway 7000. I loaded FrontPage 2002, the is the program
I used to create my web page, onto my new computer. My web page is hosted on
Yahoo and I can't open my website with FrontPage on my computer. Has anyone
got any suggestions?

This is known issue with Direcway, you need to contact them or rollback to 4000.

I contacted Direcway and they said to uninstall FrontPage and then re-install
it to reset the settings and it should work. I did and it still doesn't work.
I also went into Yahoo and reset the authors and settings per their
instructions and that didn't work either. A geek from the GeekSquad told me
there is something inside the DW7000 that won't let me use FrontPage. He
explained it in techno-lingo that I didn't understand, but after your
response whatever he said is probably true. Rolling back to the 4000 isn't an
option as we have made a major investment in upgrading to a new computer and
the 7000. We had nothing but trouble with the 4000 over the past year,
frequently not even being able to access Direcway. We live in a remote area
and dial-up is our only other alternative. The 7000 is 10 times faster than
the 4000 was. I hate to have to subscribe to a dial up for the old computer
and just use it for updating the website but I don't really want to scrap the
site as I have spent a lot of time building it. If I have to build a new one
do you know of a program that will work with the DW7000?

Try this, It may work (or may not) in your internet browser, (tools, internet
options, connections, lan settings) uncheck (or check) the use proxy server
field.

I just upgraded from a 3000 to a 7000 and have the same problem. In searching
the net I find several people who say they maintain multiple FrontPage sites
using the 7000. As a result I believe that there is some setup that does
work. One user who posted success does not list email address and has not
posted recently.
http://www.justbroadband.org/forum/...hilite=direcway

Without setting the proxy on, any attempt to publish gets an error without
getting as far as asking for your login credentials. The only applicable part
of the error message refers to incorrect proxy server settings. After
settings the proxy settings to those recommended by DirecWay support I get
this FrontPage error:

The server couldn't log you on because you are connecting through a proxy
server but the server's authentication scheme(s) do not work across a proxy.
Try adding the server to the Exceptions box in the proxy settings dialog or
request the server administrator to enable another authentication scheme.

I add my site but no joy. I also occasionally get an error that asks if I am
trying to connect to a SharePoint server.

How can we chase this down? I've sent an email to direcway to see if they
are blocking port 80 uplinks but have not gotten a reply as yet.

Kathleen,

I've got a thread running in DSLreports and contacted the bigger installers
and Direcway on this. From hints at these sources I made some progress.

I can get FrontPage to allow FTP connections by doing two things in Tools |
Options. First I had to add a proxy server entry for HTTP at 192.168.0.1 port
87 and an exception for our web site www.computerassistance.com. Second I had
to turn on the switch to use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.

This allows me to update individual pages. My understanding is that I can't
publish my entire site that way since it uses the FrontPage extensions.

Can you confirm that this is the case?

Can you think of any reason why enabling HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections
would allow me to get an FTP connection from inside FrontPage but still block
the HTTP connection?

Thanks,
MylesJ

Yes using the FTP option, no using the HTTP choice when trying to open a
remote site from within FrontPage. This is from the main machine that
actually publishes the web site. XP Pro, FrontPage 2003, IE 6, current on all
updates. On this machine we can also get FTP access directly from IE 6 if it
is not set to use passive FTP and it does not matter whether the proxy is set
or not. HTTP access attempts go through the password dialog and then give the
error message Unable to open http://www.computerassistance.com
1> .... FPE not installed
2> ... server out of service
3> ... incorrect proxy settings
4> error occured in the web server

From another machine running XP Home, FP 2002SP3, that I only use to update
pages in house, attempts to open the web server in FrontPage do not get to
the password dialog. It gets an error http://www.computerassistance.com isn't
accessible, folder may be located in an unavailable position, protected with
password, or filename contains a / or \. I can open the site using FTP from
IE without a problem as long I passive FTP is not enabled.

I got a few more responses from DSL reports indicating success with a 7000
hosted system as long as the proxy was off.

Can FPE be broken on the hosting server if the navigation buttons and search
facility work when the site is accessed through a browser?

Thanks,
MylesJ
