Hi,
We have windows 2003 web server and utilizing Frontpage server extensions.
All server extensions related tools are working, such as email, hit counter,
forms, but when I tried to recalculate the web or adding new user for the
subweb, it gives error message.
“The server administration programs and the server extensions on the Web
server are not compatible. The server is too old to use with this
administration program. “

When I open via Microsoft SharePoint Administrator (under Administrator
Tools), it shows web site to "upgrade". It is suppose to be Administration. I
click on the "Upgrade" , but it is still running. It seem it hanged up.

I installed the Frontpage server extensions from the windows 2003 cd.

Thanks for your help

I'm no MVP but had the same problem you discribe. I'm a newbie using XP-pro,
IiS 5.0, and Front Page 2000 but involve with IT for over 20 yrs. I recently
got my new laptop and volunteered to setup a site (and need the extensions
for some of the pages) for my very small home town in Maine. Even though my
system was brand new, I decided to go the Microsoft site and update XP and FP
with all the latest updates. It seems that is when all my "problems" began.

I'm not sure how I got through all the problems/issues but once I gave up on
the Server Extension Administrator console and started to use the Microsoft
Sharepoint Administrator console I was able to solve my other issues.

I have to believe the Sharepoint files are what is causing the "too old"
error message. Ignoring the Server Extension Adm console and using the
Sharepoint Admin seem to be the solution.

Hope this helps.

FP2002 extensions use the SharePoint Administration pages,
FP2000 extensions use the Server Extensions Administration dialogue

DUDE, would you PLEASE conatact ANYONE at MS working for Purehost.com Server 2003 Implemntation Team and tell the PureHost engineers that!!!
They have not been able to get FP Extensions to work at all on my sites because they insist on using a unix-based "security" IDP nonsense front-end that simply is interfering with the proper security features builtin to FPExtensions2002 running on Serv2003 - dont even get me started as to why they refuse to use SharePouint Serveices dirdctly for their customers.

Subweb creation failures and the missing or non-writable service.lck file (that can't get created by FP due tothe outside secuirty ACL locks) proves to me that this is exactly the issue they are having, but they wont listen to me, apparently.

If you have ANY influence or contact method to help this company (and all the Endurance Intl held compamies), I will do a huge articel on you in my blog, this elevating my blog to , well, a better status?

Seriously, they need some guidance.
