administration program is too old to use
|

| I've been trying to publish a web I have on my hard drive to my hard drive
and resolving a host of issues (opening web [had to set up a virtual disk],
service.lck error, server does not have extension...) along the way. The
current problem is the following message I am getting when I run Server
Extension Administrator. By right clicking on the /LM/W3SVC/1: and selecting
the "all task - check server extension" I get the following error:
The server administration program and the server extension on the web server
are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with this
server.
I had this error and in reseaching I found there was an update to the MMC
2.0 and I was using to 3.0. I've installed the new MMC (with required
regkey for
XP Pro) and still get the error.
After clicking on the only button (OK) on the Check Web popup window appears
and displays:
{window title} Check Web
HTTP://
No problems found
End check 3/22/2006 11:49:51 PM
I haven't found an update to the FP (2000) Server Extension administration
program. The version of extension installed is 2002 (based on the
recommendations in the KB, that should be compatible to all older ver. of FP
extensions.
Is there an update to the Server Administration program, if so where to
download and install.

| Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Microsoft SharePoint
Administrator
leads directly to the admin. pages for FP2002 extensions.

| Thanks Ron, however when I try to access the Sharepoint Administrator I get
the following error msg (I'm logged on w/admin rights):
(Any how-to to get the correct rights set for this? The title bar on the
error window indicates http://jimt/_sharepoint/fpadmdll.dll)

You do not have permission to view this page using your current user account.
Please try the following:
If you have another user account with a higher level of permission, click
your browser's Back button to try again using that account.
If you believe you should be able to view this page, contact the Web site
administrator.

I'm the Web site admin so I guess I need to talk to myself (which I'm often
doing trying to publish my web to my hard drive). My system only has two user
accounts, mine and my wife for remote access from our desktop. Both accounts
has admin rights.

| Mark,
Thanks for your help. I've followed option 1 in the KB321488. When I select
the default web server in IIS and run the check server extension 2002 option
I now get a log on popup screen with a user name and password entries. I have
no idea what values should be entered (the user name shown the property
screen during the KB procedure was IUSR_JIMT and the password was ????). I
also get a log on popup when I select the default web server and use the open
with Front page option. Same issue, not sure what to put in as a user
name/password but everything I've tried does not work.
Not sure what to do next. It appears I have a number of issues (as well as
my learning curve). I'm still receiveing the "too old" msg when running the
check server extension option via the Server Extension Adm. console. Another
issue is every time I open the SE Adm console and then exit without any
changes I'm prompted to "save the changes".
