Author Hitcounter works on FP98 pages but not same pages if FP03 is used

My standard FP hitcounter works on old FP98 pages but stays on "1" if those
same pages are edited by FP03. Using FTP to post files, since FP post
doesn't work. My server has old or incomplete FP extensions, if any, and
they are usually lost by the
server czar on a regular basis. Still, my old FP98 hitcounters always work.
To sum it up, I can edit pages with FP98, post with FTP, and hitcounter
works....
if I edit the page with FP03, post with FTP, the counter resets to 1 and
never increments. Going back to edit with FP98 doesn't help. The counter is
dead.

Posting with FTP has probably corrupted the extensions.. You need have
them reinstalled and then use http publish.

actually you need to recalculate with the Frontpage 2003 extensions.
Pain in the butt.

FrontPage 2003 extensions do not exist 2002 is the latest (and last)
version. If any version of extensions are corrupted by FTP, they must
be repaired or re-installed - recalculation usually does not work, and
will never work on a Unix server.
