Hi all,

I am responsible for my organisation's intranet sites. Authors on one of the
sites are facing issues while publishing modified files. We have two servers
to host staging and live sites, both have FrontPage extns. 2002 installed on
Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Users generally use FrontPage 2003 on Windows
XP workstations to connect to these sites.

The users are getting two types of errors while publishing:

1. Cannot access service.lck file, and
2. Server error: Cannot create file - this happens when users try to publish
a new file. Strangely, users would still be able to publish the existing
files that they might have modified.

The first problem usually goes away when I delete service.lck from _vti_pvt
folder. To resolve the second issue, I have to login to the live server and
select 'Check server extensions' option available in the IIS console.

Though I am resolve these errors using these corrective measures, I was
wondering if there is a preventive solution to this as users get extremely
frustrated when they get such error messages regularly.

Has anyone faced similar problems? Can someone help me understand the
root-cause and how I can prevent the error (automatic deletion of service.lck
file perhaps??).

I will appreciate any help with this.

Thanks in advance!
