Hi,

I'm having problems with managing server extensions.
I klick on the virtual web site, then on action, all tasks, Configure Server
extensions 2002.
Then iexplore pops up, and with a box for username and password.
I have tried my administrator and password , no luck.. then tried with my
user with admin rights, but still nothing.
No username and passwords are approved, alvays pops up asking for username
and password.

I'm running Windows 2003 server with IIS 5.0

Any sollutions for this?

Windows 2003 run IIS 5, not 5, and the extensions must have been installed via the Windows 2003
Server CD. Should have been installed at the time the IIS was installed.

Freddy,

Did you find a solution for your problem?

I am having the exact same problem. I have used FPSE many times before on
production servers with no problem. My situation is on a development server
in a local LAN. The difference between the production environment is that
when navigating in the production environment for FPSE admin functions I
noticed it is using http://10.10.10.12/... for instance to get to the
respective FPSE dll. I am guessing that since the local IP address is used
the machine account is valid for logging in. In the local LAN it is using
http://dev.mywebsite.com/... to get to the respective FPSE dll. Is you
situation the same?

I followed the MS KB article 896861 found at:

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;896861

with no success.

Other info about DNS in the local LAN is that there is only one IP assigned
to the NIC so all web sites are configured with 'all unassigned' and host
headers are used. To me this means the attempt to access the sites FPSE
admin functions appears to occur from and external source and hence the
Windows login dialog box. But the problem is that the FPSE doesn't allow the
local machine Administrator account to be used. Checking all the ACLs for
the folders shows that 'Administrators' group has permission on all of them.

Anyone have any solutions?

Thanks,
G. Dorazio

Ahh, offcourse.

It's IIS 6 on my server, and IIS and server extensions are installed from
the windows 2003 server CD!

Hi,

No i did not find a solution on this problem.
I've tried to re-install IIS and server extensions, updated the security on
dll's and folders.
Nothing seems to help.
I'm trying to manage it on this link:
http://2k3srv/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpa...page=recalc.htm
2k3srv is ok in DNS and also in the local hosts file.
Also tried from another machine, no luck.

any ideas?

Hmm.. i tested now with using: 127.0.0.1, and now i'm logged in, i'm able to
browse.

But, now i tested from an pc located outside my network, and now i was able
to go on this link:
http://www.myserver.no/_vti_bin/_vt...page=recalc.htm
Logged in with my administrator username and password.. and there i could
set up the extensions and all the others.

Why can't i do this from the local server? any security reasen?

Best Reg.
Freddy.

Freddy,

I have multiple sites on the server so I do not have the same problem as
yours as I thought.

However, I use the Microsoft SharePoint Administrator under Administrative
Tools to get to the Server Administration page. Sites can be "extended" in
either the Server Administrator page or in IIS as I'm sure you probably
already know. But it is from the Server Administrator page that my sites
virtual server link (after being extended) has the local domain name as part
of the link. Clicking that link brings up the login box that I can't get
through. Normally if DNS is not installed locally that link has the machine
name in it or the IP address and it logs in just fine. So if you haven't
tried through this MS SharePoint Administrator page you might give it a
shot.

I still have to track down my situation with the local domain name from the
DNS being part of the issue...In this case I have DNS running but not Active
Directory so I am beginning to think there is a problem having the whole
server set up with multiple web sites and NOT using Active Directory. But I
just don't know at this point and I am not AD knowledgable...

Freddy,

Here is a link to an MS article that has several sections on configuring
FPSE. I am studying the section titled "Removing Interactive and Network
Permissions" for redeploying my development environment to mitigate this
login problem. It looks like a thorough read so you may want to take a look
for your situation.

Good luck,
Gery

Freddy,

There is a bug report filed at this link:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/produ...06-28c58f3a065c

But at that bug report, Sterling, the originating author found his own
solution. It is in the "bugfix.zip" file that is the attachment near the
bottom of the report.

The crux of it is that a new registry entry is required. Details are in that
fix.

Good luck,

Gery D. Dorazio
