Front page site open error

| On XP Pro running IIS 5.1 w/ Frontpage Extentions 2002, and it looks like
sharepoint services have been glommed on...
When I attempt to open a local web w/ FP2003 I get the error:
Server error: Error 5 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Classes\.3df"
If I stop and restart the default web site, then it works for a while (not
sure what triggers it to fail). Sometimes running the check extensions fixes
it, also temporarily.

| Hi Tkiehil,
Try creating a test site and see if you are getting the same error message.
if so then the problem could be with IIS. if not, then try to re-installing
server extension on your default web.
Good luck

| Uninstalled and reinstalled FPE 2002 via IIS... problem goes away
temporarily. Sometime later (again unknown trigger), it acts up again.

| - How are you opening the website?
- Did you try creating a test site to see if you are generating the same
error message?
- You also mentioned that you have sharepoint installed. Sharepoint and FPSe
can co-exist on the same server but not extended on the same site.

I hope this will give some lead to solving the problem, if not reply back
for more assistance.

| I'm trying to open it (local root web or any local subweb) with Front Page
2003. It throws the error and does not open the site.
I can't seem to remove Sharepoint completely (remember this is XP)... I've
removed FPE again, then I try to open the web with FP with http://localhost
it thinks it's a remote web... then when I continue, checking the open with
FrontPageSharepoint option, it tells me Sharepoint services are not
installed. but neither are Frontpage.
If I go to install FPE, it calls the dll in
http://{machinename}/_sharepoint/fpadmdll.dll
I'd really like to have plain ol' vanilla FPE and no Sharepoint.
