When installing BTS 2K4 on Windows 2K3, it goes through the process on
installing all of the components necessary to get BTS 2K4 installed, but
Enterprise Single Sign-On is not in the list of Services.
When it gets to the configuration, it fails, because the service is not
available.
I have gone and run the ESS.msi with no change to the services list.
The installation did happen, as I do have the C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Enterprise Single Sign-On folder with all of the files, but nothing in
the services list.

What can I do to resolve this issue, as it is keeping me from completing the
installation.

Is Enterprise Single Sign on showing up in Add/Remove Programs?

Yes it is, I have repaired it, and even removed it, and then reinstalled it,
to no avail.

Since you have all the prereqs installed, this shouldn't take too long.
Uninstall BizTalk, uninstall SSO, reboot, reinstall BizTalk and make sure
you have your service account created prior to performing the installation.
When the installation gets to the SSO service, be sure it runs as your
service account. Give that a try and let me know how you make out.

Still the same issue after uninstalling, rebooting, and then finally
reinstalling BTS 2K4.
There is nothing in the Event Viewer under System, Security, nor Application
that state anything is wrong with ESS.

Does ESS create a log somewhere when it installs?

It is still not there...

I don't think the ESS service will actually get created until you run the
biztalk configuration framework where you provide credentials and database
information for it. If you are running into problems with the
configuration, post those specific error messages, and check the
installation log, for more help.

It looks like the service that it is trying to start is related to the BAS
web site handler and not ESS. Check the installation guide for any
requirements for BAS and then check your event log for a failure to start
that service that might tell you why it couldn't start.
