questions regarding software requirements to run biztalk 2004

| We are currently working on an EDI solution for one of our
clients and had made an initial decision to go with
Biztalk. I've received the Biztalk 2004 beta and was about
to install it when I noticed some of the software
requirements.
First, is it necessary for the user to have
Visual Studio C# 2003 installed to run biztalk or is that
just for development purposes?
Second, can we get away with purchasing the $50 developer
license for SQL server 2000 to use on our clients machine
for Biztalk? We are trying to keep the cost as low as
possible.
Lastly, I have been trying to create an XML 'map' to parse
an EDI flat file but have been unsuccessful. Ive been
using the Biztalk editor to create this map. I've also
tried examining some of the xml documents that came with
the evaluation edition of biztalk 2002 but have not met
with success trying to copy the same basic parsing rules
from the other EDI X12 specifications. I also tried to do
the learn biztalk lessons and tutorials but they would not
function properly on my machine. Does anyone have a good
resource for help on creating these maps to parse these
types of files?
Thank you very much in advance,

| Hello Jason,
First off, use the beta groups to ask questions about Biztalk 2004. I do
not know if BTS2004 requires VS2003 or not.
Secondly, for your deployed environment, you can use SQL Server Standard
Edition. Developer edition is not for a production server.
Thirdly, EDI files are not "flat." They are, by their nature, heirarchical.
What EDI transaction are you trying to create the map for? I may (or may
not) be able to help you muddle through.
Lastly: Learning Biztalk from books and examples is a difficult proposition.
At the best of times, I'd recommend taking a training course.
Unfortunately, the new Biztalk is radically different from Biztalk 2002, and
training is only available for BTS2002.

Not a good answer, I know. Perhaps one of the commercial training
organizations will put out a course in BTS2004 before long...
