How can I interrogate the value of variables inside an atomic scope?

Is there a better way than creating globally scoped variables and within my atomic scope assigning my internal variables to my globally scoped variables? This is a pretty cheesy way of doing this.

I feel like with regards to my atomic scoped processing, I'm on the outside looking in... and I can't see a thing.
