Author Configuring BAS on a different computer...

I have seen documentation
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...config_erpy.asp)
on configuring BAS on a different computer than the computer that has BizTalk
installed. A desired configuration is 1 BizTalk Server, 1 SQL Server, 1
SharePoint server.

However, when I get to the configuration part where I try to specify a
different computer to install BAS on I get "Error encountered while querying
virtual server state for URL: http://<>/sites/BASSite ", even though I can
hit the site with a browser just fine.

Is this possible? What was the documentation talking about if not? Does
BizTalk have to be on the same machine as BAS?

Phil,

BAS can be on the same server as BizTalk or a separate server. The
restriction is that BAS must be installed and configured on the server
running WSS.

Server1 (recommend Windows 2003):
Install BizTalk without BAS and configure it to create a new BizTalk group.
Make sure MSMQT is installed with BizTalk

Server2 (must be Windows 2003):
Install WSS and configure.
Install MSMQ and make sure the service is running.
Install BAS without the rest of BizTalk and configure to join the BizTalk
group on Server1.

The error you mention below is in configuration, not installation. From
the error message, it seems you have installed BAS on the Server1 and are
then running configuration where you try to point it to Server2. This is
incorrect. You need to uncheck BAS when doing the install on Server1 so
that it does not install there - then you will not need to configure it on
Server1.

Once you have Server1 up and running fine without BAS. Then install just
the BAS portion on Server2 and run configuration where you can join the
group on Server1.

You also mention SharePoint Server. Keep in mind that BAS uses Windows
SharePoint Services and not SharePoint Portal Server.

Hope that helps,
