SharePoint Windows Services is required if you would like BAS (Business Activity Services) to work.
BAS is an optional feature of BizTalk 2004. In other words, you can install BizTalk 2004 without BAS and it will not require WSS.
Of course, you won't be able to use BAS.
Role link is a BizTalk concept and does not require Windows Sharepoint Services to work.
I am not sure which sample you downloaded from gotdotnet so I cannot tell you if it requires WSS or not.
If the sample illustrates only role links, there are chances that you do not need WSS.
Thanks,
-Gilles.

Perhaps you are talking about this one: http://www.gotdotnet.com/workspaces...8e-20f9f32853ad
If so, the samepl does not seem to need WSS. The word document file does n mention WSS and moreover, the source code seems to involve only
Databases access.
Thanks.
-Gilles.
