Author encoding in BTS2002 to MQ

I have an app that monitors a message queue for XML sent into a message
queue through BTS2002. The XML needs to be:
<sample>value</sample>

If I save the XML as a file, everything is ok. However, when I send the xml
into a message queue, it looks like this:
<.s.a.m.p.l.e.>.v.a.l.u.e.<./.s.a.m.p.l.e.>

This seems to be some sort of encoding issue, and I was wondering where in
BTS2002 I can set this. I have no control over the encoding on the receiving
side.
