Author Some emails hang BizTalk 2006 Beta 2 POP3 Adapter

When sending some email messages to a mailbox that is connected to a POP3
receive location, the message doesn’t arrive within my BizTalk orchestration,
and BizTalk stops pulling messages from the POP3 adapter. When this problem
occurs, a service instance does appear when searching within the BizTalk
Administration console, always with the following information:
Service Name: <Name is not available>
Application: (Blank)
Status: Active
Pending Job: None

It seems as if the email message is received by the BizTalk 2006 POP3
adapter, but before it can be sent along to my orchestration it hits a
problem and stalls. After this happens I have to shutdown the BizTalk
Application service, which times out, and then clean out the MessageBox
database to get it up and running again. Also, I remove the message from the
mailbox, or the problem occurs again when it retrieves the message again. I
am able to receive POP3 emails normally most of the time though, so I can
connect to the mailbox.

This seems to me to be an internal BizTalk / POP3 adapter error, since the
message never arrives at the start of my orchestration (in the service
instance it also isn't linked to my orchestration). I am able to reproduce
the error with certain emails, but there doesn’t seem to be any clear
characteristic that causes this problem to occur. The EventLog isn’t showing
any problems.

The configuration that I am using is:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• BizTalk 2006 Beta 2
• SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
• POP3 Connecting to Outlook Server 2003

Has anyone else had this issue? I’m hoping that this will be fixed in the
next version of BizTalk 2006.
