SQL Adapter Timeout

In the documentation for the SQL Adapter the following statement is given:

A time-out value cannot be set when performing operations using the SQL
adapter. Operations that fail will time out after approximately 30 seconds.

Does this mean only SQL calls that fail will timeout after 30 seconds OR
that all calls that take 30 seconds or longer will fail?
