I think you need a Receive Port & Receive Location for each EDI
party you are sending documents to, even if you are not planning on
receiving edi documents from that party.

I had the exact same problem, even though it was giving the error
message below, it was creating the EDI documents correctly, but it
couldn't finish each EDI send, because these internal "ESPSTA2
SP4DEFAULT" documents wouldn't be received by anything, and so the
EDI send messages would remain in HAT forever, until it gets
dehydrated, and you have to kill it.

Anyway, after I created a Receive Port and Receive Location for the
party I was sending EDI documents to, these errors went away right
away!
