I get "A Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator problem prevented
connection to the Configuration database" when I attempt to deploy from
Visual Studio.Net.

My development computer is a Window XP Professional the database server is a
Windows 2000 Server, both on the same domain.

Nick,

Please consult the product's installation guide for DTC settings
requirements on both the BizTalk and remote SQL boxes. If you have set
these properly already and continue to have problems, this is a great KB
article which should also help you in troubleshooting DTC issues:

I believe the article references DTCPing, but DTCTester can also be helpful:
