Hi,
I wanted to make an application which converts one kind of
file format to another using Biztalk. I won't be using
Biztalk frontend and am thinking of developing my own
front end , which can interface with Biztalk for the file
conversion. Does Biztalk server expose any API's for the
same so that it can be called from my application?

Thanks & Regards,
Deepak

Depending on what you mean by your own "frontend"... Yes, BizTalk
supports programming ontop of it. You can use the IInterchagne.submit
or submitsync methods, but they will require that you have channels,
maps and ports in Messaging Manager.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for ur prompt reply.
My idea is to create a front end in either ASP.Net or
VB.Net. Is it possible to do the field definition and
mapping using my application using Biztalk? My Query is
whether I can create input file definition, output file
definition and maps on the fly by accessing Biztalk
interfaces?

Thanks & Regards,
Deepak

Well... I would like to start with one of the very annoying answes;
Why do you want that? I simply can not see when that would be useful.
To me it sounds very complicated and not very useful.

Anyway, to answer your question; I suppose you could do that, yes. But
it sounds cumbersome. There is no API for creating
documentspecifications and maps, but if you look at existing
documentspecifications and/or maps, the structure can be extracted
from that. I really wouldn't go into that.

Another thing is; If you are creating documentspecifications and maps
programatically, then there is really not much left for BizTalk to do.
You could just as easily use an XSLT-engine for running your XLST-maps
on the input.
