Author Slow response on MS Access

We have recently installed Microsoft Server 2004 driving a local network of 4 pcs, 1 XP and 3 Windows 98 with the main application being Microsoft Access 2000. The data element of the database is stored on the Server and the appication element stored on
the individual P'cs. The problem is since the server was installed response times have increased on some queries dramatically. A query that used to take 5 seconds on the previous local Windows 98 network can now take up to a minute and is very variable. I
have been advised by the provider of the server that this could be normal and is the result of the additional security checks that 2004 server and XP go through. I have moved the data element to the XP machine eliminating the server with the same result
. I have also moved the data element to a 98 machine resulting in the same consistant response times prior the server being installed. We seem to have taken a step forward in technology but three steps back in useability. I would be extremely grateful if
someone could advise if this comment by the provider is correct or indeed if there is a solution to my problem.

Thanks in anticipation.

Apologies the Microsoft Server version should read 2003 not 2004.

You'd better cross-post this question to an appropriate group. BizTalk
Server has nothing to do with Access and it does not run on Win 98. It's
just right people don't see your question.

Just out of curiosity- why Access on multi-machine configuration? Use MSDE,
and I believe Access can work as a front end to both MSDE and SQL Server,
so your client piece could be unaffected.
