MS on the MBS sites haven't been able to answer this, so I'm going to try you
guys.
We BizTalk 2002 (Win2k) running the canned integration between Great Plains
and MS CRM. BizTalk, SQL Server, and CRM are all on seperate servers and
this is not a disaster recovery scenerio. All I want to do is replace the
current BizTalk server with a new on.

The existing SQL dbs will remain in place, as will the schema. Can I just
install the BizTalk server onto the new hardware, and copy over the files in
the \\biztalk\c$\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk
Server\BizTalkServerRepository folder to have the schema picked up with the
DocSpecs and the Maps? Does the server name have to stay the same? Any
other gotchas involved?

Many thanks...

I did not work much with Biztalk 2002, but it seems that you may be able to
install the new machine in parallel to the old one as in load balance
scenario, and then slowly retire the old one. Just copying files does not
look like a good idea - what about registry entries etc.? Also, integration
with MS CRM may be somewhat delicate, you need to ask in MS CRM forum what
do you want to do [with MS CRM configuration] if your ops grew and you need
to scale out BizTalk -- this scenario they are likely to know. It's
probably not the only solution, but seems like the safest path. Hope this
helps,

The copying of the files, just meant the doc specs and such from the xml
depository. Have asked the CRM guys, Great plains guys MBS guys...no answer
except 'gimme a credit card and we'll try to help'. I don't know that I can
set a load balance scenerio as the version that came with the CRM/GP package
was the partner edition, which I'd bet on being crippled in some fashion.

I afraid that in this case you may have to redeploy everything and take
care of stateful items, like file shares, if you have some on BizTalk
machine. It's very hard to say firmly anything else as I don't know how CRM
and Great Plains use BTS for their integration.
