Author Chinese character set in SMTP Transport message?

Perhaps this a striaghtforword issue, perhaps not....

Am running BTS2004 on a W2K3 server w/ a remote SQL2000 DB. All patched
and current.

The problem:
An FTP Adapter is used to grab a file on an IBM location, disassemble the
table and append it to an existing table in SQLServer. This process works
flawlessly. I added a port to notify me via email when the data is written
to the SQLServer table. The email sends, but displays the characters below:

<?xml
version="1?? `N`??IH???????HI `Q??HHX????N`QHIeQ?.WtSummary"></WtSummRecd>?

(These characters show up as misc ASCII characters or Chinese if the the
computer in question has the Asian character set installed).

Properties for this port are listed below.

Binding Specify Now
Communication Direction Send
Communication Pattern One-Way
Description (Blank)
Identifier tableUpdated
Object Type Port
Port Type blahblah_Orchestrations.tableUpdatedType
Report To Analyst True
Send Pipeline Microsoft.BizTalk.DefaultPipelines.XMLTransit
Transport SMTP
URI (my email address)

Is the Binding correct? How about the send pipeline? There's only one
other pipeline available, the
Microsoft.BizTalk.DefaultPipelines.PassThruTransit. Should this one be used
instead or are there other available pipeline which may need loaded on our
instance of BTS?

Any information greatly appreciated!
