I have a Virtual Machine with Windows 2003 Server as the OS, BTS 2006,
SQL2005 and VS2005.
When I attempt to configure a new SQL Adapter using the "Add Generated
Items" wizard in VS2005, the wizard simply ends without generating the
expected schema and orchestration, neither does it throw any exceptions.
I'm using the "Add Adapter Metadata" option in the wizard, as stated, to
create a SQL adapter. The odd thing is, this process works on another machine
with a similar setup.
I've seen a few postings for this, but no concrete resolution yet - does
anyone have any ideas?

I have no idea what is causing this.

Perhaps you could try using the SQL Adapter to connect to some other
SQL Server you might have somewhere on your network and see if that
works?
