Biztalk 2004 install error while updating .net 1.1

| The Biztalk 2004 installation fails while attempting to install the KB83280
hotfix for .NET 1.1. Attempting to install the hotfix manually also fails.
I suspect the problem is related to my installing SQL Server 2005 before
installing BizTalk 2004, possibly a different version of windows installer
has been installed. Any suggestions at this point other than removing SQL
Server 2005 and possibly wiping the machine? HELP!!
Error: The following platform components failed to install and will need to
be manually installed before setup can proceed: Microsoft .NET Framework

Error attempting to install manually: The upgrade patch cannot be installed
by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be
missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.
Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you
have the correct upgrade patch.

| I had the same issue today. In my case it was related to the .NET framework
SP1, which seems to prevent the hotfix from installing. Since you cannot
uninstall SP1, I uninstalled and re-installed the .NET framework. Then
Biztalk installed just fine including the hotfix for the framwork.

| Any particular reason why you want to install BizTalk Server 2004 with SQL
Server 2005?
I believe SQL 2005 is unsupported by BTS 2004..
