I have designaged a separate server as MSS. I wanted to understand the
credential flow from SSO database to the SSO service running on the BizTalk
boxes.
Following is the configuration:

Server 1(MSS)
Server 2 (BizTalk)
Server 3 (BizTalk)
Server 4 (SQL) - Credential DB and other databases

When Server 2's SSO retrieves credentials, will it directly go to the
database or will it go through the SSO on Server1?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Yes, Server2 will directly go to the database to retrieve the credentials
and will then decrypt it using the secret that it has in memory.
Server2 obtains the secret from the MSS (Server1) and stores it in
memory(encrypted). Only the MSS contains a persisted copy of the secret.
