I made an installation on a Windows XP box with just the client/admin tools
on to remotely administrate a BizTalk 2004 box running on Windows 2000.
Trying anything in BizTalk Explorer like creating a Receive port or deploying
stuff gives me the error:

'An error occured while enlisting in a distributed transaction'

I have already checked that the remote client and admin options under MSDTC
in Component services on the XP box is ticked. Restarted MSDTC, SQL server
etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Check your fiewall settings on the XP box. Turn off personal firewall for
test control.
See if you get the same error? If not reconfigure firewall to support MSDTC.

I'm affraid I already tried that (adding msdtc.exe to the firewall exception
list) and it does not solve the problem. What ports do msdtc use? Perhaps I
can configure the firewall to exclude those ports manually.

Thanks

To remotely admin a bts box, you need to enable DTC network clients on the
Biztalk server.
To deploy, the assembly must be gacced *manually* on the BTS Server...the
admin tool doesn't remote gac for you. -but you should be able to
stop/start hosts.

If you're going through a firewall, you need to open 135 TCP and allow
secondary ports based on that binding. If you have a firewall that is
stateless, you'll have to limit the secondary ports that DTC/RPC uses to a
specific range and open that range on the firewall. Check here for more
info: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;EN-US;300083

If the BTS Server is 2003, you'll have to turn off RPC security on that
server.(RPC security only permits other 2003 machines in the same domain to
connect to it...another OS or domain, and the connection is not
permitted.): http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;827805
