Author Can't Install on WXP SP2 due to Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix KB834280

I'm trying to install on Windows XP SP2 with .NET Framework 1.1 SP1, but get
the problem below. I thought that KB834280 was already a part of .NET
Framework 1.1 SP1. In any case, is there some way to get around this?

Thanks,
John Saunders

John,
Do you by any chance have .Net fwk 2.0 beta installed on the same machine?
This is unsupported. Otherwise, could you please attach a full setup log
file?
thanks

Yes, I have the other Framework, and I understand why it wouldn't be
supported.

However, you should fix the product to survive later Framework versions, and
to be able to choose which version it will operate under. One is meant to be
able to run with several Framework versions on the same machine.

John,
Unfortunately when BTS 2004 was released, we were not able to compat-test
it with 2.0. Hence i cannot officially guarantee you that the full product
will work after you do the installation. BUT, if you are prepared to take
that chance, the first step for you is to get past the installation issue.
First can you please try this?
Copy the mscorsvr.dll from your <windowsdir>\Microsoft .Net\1.1.XXX
directory into the 2.0.XXX directory and try setup again.
You should be able to delete it after the installation.

Let me know if this takes you past the setup issue.
warm regards

Thanks, that worked.

BTW, I wasn't looking for a guarantee, I just thought this was a
configuration that should install. Among other things, won't this exact
problem occur with the released version of Framework 2.0? Someone will want
to fix that...

John,
Rest assured, we are thinking about this. To completely address your issue
for now, here is a zip file which contains the config files that are
required to patch the managed executables for working correctly in a SxS
installation. I havent tested this personally, but you probably will find
this useful.

Thanks, but what's "SxS"?

Sorry. Side By Side.. One of the many interesting acronyms we cook up each
