Author Config cannot create user groups on single machine with AD

I'm setting up a new stand alone machine (virtual server)
running Win2003Ent. I've made it the DC of it's own AD
domain and installed sharepoint.

The BTS (2004) install ran fine.. but now, in the Config
Wizard - Windows Accounts page, it does not recognise any
of the groups I enter/select.

The odd thing, is that when I installed this on XP it
created all the groups itself - now it hasn't.

I wonder if it is because this machine (win2003ent) is
running AD as a domain controller?

Also it does not appear to be consistent because:
1) For the first few accounts (groups) it has not created
and does not allow me to manually create (using AD Users
tool) then select the new group.
2) For the BizTalk Administrators Group group it has used
the Administrators group of the machine. (I tried
assigning this to one of the previous ones and it daid
the group did not exist).
3) I appears to have successfully created and assigned
the last 3 groups (eg SSO Administrators), but when I
look in the Active Directory Users and Computers tool
these groups do not appear.

Any one know what's going on here? and/or how to fix this?

Thanks very much
Tim
