I have created a very simple Orchestrations with Business Rules. I pass in
a xml doc and then want to pass it to a business rule. I have created
atomic scope shape with the callRules shape. I have created the Business
Rule and tested it with the same xml doc as I am testing the orchestration.
It works fine with test policy in the rules composer. When I try to assign
the rule in the CallRules shape it does not let me assign the xml message as
a parameter. I can select the policy but can not assign the message (as a
parameter) in the configuration.

The rules engine does not have a fact retreiver. I thought because I am
passing the xml message I would not need the facts retriever. I have tried
to follow the Loan Processing Sample in the SDK and the only difference I
think I see is the facts retiever.

Why can I not set the parameter in the CallRules Policy configuration?

Any help would be appreciate.

When you open the related schema in the Rule Composer, there is a property
for the schema called Document Type. You need to change it to match the
fully qualified type of the message that is expected the orchestration (for
instance "BizTalkProject.MySchema").
