Can I have a one-way method that takes no input but returns a value?

By defintion, if you are returning something, this is not one way. Someone
has to call your method, with or without parameters, and you are returning
output so this is not a one way message.

What is it you are trying to accomplish?

I think I was using the wrong term. I looked in the WSDL spec and I
think what I want to do is called a notification operation. Unless I'm
reading the BPEL spec wrong it seems like inputVariable on <invoke/> is
optional.

I'm asking because I had service described in WSDL with a notification
operation and I wanted to invoke it using <invoke/>. The validator I am
using complains that inputVariable on <invoke/> is required thus making
my BPEL file invalid...
