We have a BizTalk 2004 solution. The Systems Engineers and Build Master do
not want us to install BizTalk 2004 on the build box but still want to be
able to build the BizTalk 2004 solution there. I can not get this to work
without the BizTalk 2004 installed.

Any advice, guidance, links, examples, etc. on how to solve this would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The only supported method of building a BizTalk solution is with Visual
Studio (thouch you can use devenv.exe from the command line as part of an
automated build process, to avoid loading the IDE.)

You can do a "minimal install", just by selecting the Development portion
(not the runtime components.) This will avoid installing services and such
on your build machine. You may not even have to run configframework, though
I haven't tested that.

Having said all that, having a full-blown installation on your build machine
means you can deploy your builds and run unit tests in an automated
fashion - though if you package up as an MSI during your build you can move
to another machine, obviously - but this doesn't lend itself to a continuous
integration process.
