Help... error about 16 bit subsystem

Attempting to load software application from cd drive to pc with windows xp
2002.
I keep getting error c\windows\system32\autoexe.nt. The system file is not
suitable for running ms-dos & microsoft windows application.
Please help if anyone knows how to fix!
