Author web.config changed ??

Hello.

We are using AC 2000 SP2 on 3 servers for some web applications.

The ASP code is deployed on the master member from within the SourceSafe
development environment.
Everything works fine but for a while ago we have noticed some strange
things.
The developer is opening the "web.config" file in the editor and while
having the file open the
editor claims that the web.config file has been changed and ask if you want
to reload.

If you look at the date and time on the file the last modified date/time is
the one when the file was published. So from this point of view
the file is not changed but the SourceSafe editor claims the file is changed
and needs reload.
Why ???

One other thing the developers complain that the variables used in the
application are being lost from time to time and therefore
the application is slow.
Any ideea where I can look to see why this things happen ?

Thank you in advance.
