AppCenter retired? what alternatives?
|

| Hi,
As you can see the Microsoft seems stopping enhance/improve Application
Center since App Center 2000 - we only see Service pack 2 and we also see
MSFT did not even test it with Windows 2003 Service pack 1 (Windows 2003
service pack 1 will break App Center 2000) ... BUT we do have need for the
following features:
1. in the NLB farm based servers, we need to deploy code in one master
server and need to replicate/sync to all servers in the farm
2. we need to load balance COM+ server apps
3. we need to load balance internal web service server farms
So what is the alternatives beside MSFT App Center 2000?
Any link/tip/suggestion is highly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance!
John

| Hi John,
Application Center is still a unique product that solves a unique
problem for customers today. If you has a pain that AC will solve, no
doubt I suggest you choose it, and you will get return on the
investment. It will still be better to use AC than have you cobble
together multiple tools or rolling your own. All the requirements
below just match AC's main force:
1. in the NLB farm based servers, we need to deploy code in one
master server and need to replicate/sync to all servers in the farm
File Synchronization
2. we need to load balance COM+ server apps
CLB
3. we need to load balance internal web service server farms

| Hi John,
Some known issues have been documented in the following article.
Please verify if they apply to the cases you met.
891330 You must perform additional steps after you install Windows
Server 2003 Service Pack 1 on a server that is running Application
Center 2000

| Hi WenJun,
Do you know where I can find any information about if is possible to have
NLB and CLB on the same server, so we can balance COM+ on the one hand and
Web Service on the other, both on same server?.
To clarify:
My current configuration is:
- A web farm of 2 Web Srv's with NLB
- An app Famr of 3 App Srv's with CLB.
My Question is: Is it possible to have also NLB on the App Farm for Balance
Web Servie requests?
