Author Apache on Unix domain socket?

Does anyone know if it's feasible to run Apache on a Unix domain
socket? Would complex modifications be needed? Unix domain sockets
are quite a bit more efficient than going through the IP stack. Of
course they only work if the client and server are on the same
machine, not what we usually think of as a "worldwide" web, but there
are applications where this is useful (e.g. the client will be a
firewall proxy server talking to the real network). Thanks for any
thoughts.
