Apache, ErrorDocument 401 and remote user logging

Hello,

every time a user fails to log in into a protected directory, the
attempt is logged as 401 together with the username (remote user).

However when there's ErrorDocument 401 directive, the attempt is
logged as well, but no username appears in the log (just a dash)

Is there a way how to log the username when ErrorDocument 401 is used?
