Author Concise definition/test for "hung" apache process

Good afternoon.

I am getting a little confused about what is meant when an apache
thread/process is hung. Can someone define (in a unix (Solaris) world)
what the term means for an apache process, and how to determine in fact
the process is in this state?

Thanks in advance,

John
