Web Servers on Windows - Securing Directory Access

Hi There,
I'm wondering if someone can help me out here.
I have setup apache 2 web server on my machine. Everything seems to be
working ok. I want to know if anyone has managed to figure out how to
restrict access to certain directories that may be listed. The
documentation is not very clear when it comes to configuring this
froma windows perspective.
It does mention that the .htaccess file may need to be amended but not
sure.
