Samba - prf*.tmp files

I'm running samba 3.0 as a PDC with XP workstations. I get error pertaining
to prf*.tmp files in profiles. i found an archived news article that
suggests that these are left behind when windows attempts to copy a profile
file by renaming it first but the attempt fails. it says to disable oplocks
on prf*.tmp files as a workaround but gives no real reason for the problem
in first place. anyone know what the problem is? thanks for the help,
