Hello,

It's not exactly about harware so sorry for offtopic here.
But still, do you think 2.4 kernel may be compiled on RH6 system with gcc
2.91?
The thing is to replace 2.2 kernel with 2.4

Thank you

It probably can, but why do you want to use RH6?

I started to do that on a Turbolinux workstation-6.
I managed. Then I tired to use it. I use a dialup.
Needed a new version of pppd. That needed a new PAM
module. Then I stopped (on a dialup, downloading pieces
was a pain) and upgraded to RH7.2.

Why only to 7.2? Or did you do this way back when 7.2 was current?

You might be able to do it but why are you still running FH6? Why don't
you do a clean install for Fedora Core 3 or 4.

Yes (though 7.3 came out three weeks after I upgraded).
I was some time ago. I was going to wait for FC2 for kernel 2.6
but when the new version (2.x) of gimp came out which required updated
gnome/gtk (a pain to do on a dialup) I got FC1 (two weeks later FC2
came out - sigh) and managed to get kernel 2.6 running on that
(lots of updates though - mkinitrd, init scripts, mod utils, etc.)
and finally upgraded to FC2. When the kernel goes to 2.8.x I may
upgrade again.

(I still have the RH7.2 partition as an emergency boot, in case
I screw up something on the FC2 partition, I can use RH7.2 to
access the ext3 filesystem - or use Knoppix or whatever).
