| Hi,
My box running SUSE 10.1 is rebooting at radom times. Very annoying.
With a limited budget I am looking into what to do. I bought a new PSU
(MicroATX 200W) but that did not help. Now I am thinking of replacing
the motherboard (mATX) with one that fits the box and that I can use my
old I/O:s ( HD CD-R) and , wlan card, graphics card as far as possible.
I have a an old computer (fujitsu-siemens) with a MS-6323 Motherboard.
Here is the motherboard data on it:
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl...s/motherboards/
Also I have the following:
- CD-R 48x
- 20 GB HD (ATA 133)
- Graphics card, NVTNT2MA 32 Mb AGP 2x/4x
- Memory pc 133 2*256
I am planning to buy the following:
Motherboard:
MSI 661FM3-V - P4 s775
Processor:
Intel Celeron D 2,6 GHz - s775
330J / Socket775 / 533/256
Memory:
Selectra DDR PC3200 - 512MB
184pin /16 Chips / 400MHz
Any ideas or hints are very much welcome!
Remember my budget is limited.
cheers,
//mikael

Did you run memtest86? It's a option on the SUSE 10.1 boot disk.
Errors messages in /var/log/messages , dmesg?
Other possibilities beside memory, loose connectors, static, failing HD or
HD errors, cpu/video overheating.

I wouldn't buy a Celeron which is a castrated P4 which is a dreadful
processor even with both of it's balls. The new Core2 Duos are the fastest
processors right now. The E6300 is the bottom of the line, get one if you
can afford it. You could also look at an Athlon 64 X2 3800 system. The
3800 is pretty cheap right now and A64 motherboards tend to give you more
for your money. For A64 systems get an motherboard with an Nvidia Nforce
chipset, the Nvidia based motherboards are very stable and have excellent
Linux compatibilities. I've been using MSI motherboards for my A64
systems, the current MSI A64 board is the K9N Platinum.
The Core2 Duo systems are hard to come by at the moment. They are brand
new and only the big guys like Dell and HP have parts. MonarchComputer is
planning on starting shipments at the end of the month. Can't give you any
Core2 motherboard recommendations, I'm looking for recommendations on
those myself.

I think it may be a heat problem, google "PC Reboots randomly".
