Hardware:
MSI K8NGM2-FID AMD AM2 939 pin socket
with nVidia 6150 onboard and both SVGA & DVI connector
7:1 MCP51 Sound, LAN onboard.
1.5Gb DDR RAM
single IDE 120 Gb hard drive
DVD-RAM and DVD ROM

xorg configuration is:
Video configuration has nVidia vesa mode, 1280 x 1024, at 50 khz.
and monitor is generic.

So, as root, I ran this:
cd /etc/X11
sudo cp xorg.conf xorg,conf.bak
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

then, configured it in Xorg (above) with the nVidia 6150, with 64Mb
shared memory resource and input the monitor specifications, about the
Sceptre X9 19"LCD. (it has both, SVGA and DVI cables. Only the DVI
cable is connected to the onboard DVI connector).

Max resolution is 1280X1024, 24 bit color, vertical refresh frequency of
15-90 Hz, horizontal frequency is 15-80 Khz

Log off, restart, and it comes up vesa, with "custom 1 " monitor at 1280
x 1024 at 50 Khz, max 59 Khz Horiz. freq.

So, wanting to run my hardware, it is a question of what to do to get it
set up properly. Then, too, I need to install and get the nVidia driver
running...

All clues are welcome, thanks in advance.

If nv doesn't work try nvidia binary only driver.
